The first strike that the film and television industry has suffered in the last 63 years was triggered.
The union representing more than 150,000 actors announced that it would go on strike in solidarity with the screenwriters who suspended their activities a couple of months ago.
Why did they go on strike?
Due to the threat posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) in front of creative works.
Great screenwriters, designers, editors, broadcasters and actors fear that AI will be used for unethical purposes, allowing production companies to exploit their work history, ideas, image and voice for profit, without the original creators receiving any present or future economic benefits.
In addition, they are protesting for better working conditions and better pay. This has caused problems in film production.
Clint Eastwood decided to cancel the shooting of his upcoming movie called “Cry Macho” due to the strike, while Ridley Scott decided to take the production to Europe to avoid the problems that are experienced in the famous “Dream Factory”.
